O'Reilly doesn't host the news, he hosts an opinion show.
An opinion show that provides commentary on current news. Whose news (i.e., whose narrative) would he opine on? Fox or NPR? I bet you the news he uses for his opinions are different from the news Jon Stewart comment on in his comedy/opinion show. It's all about the spin, but . . . . you are about to enter the no spin zone(R)!!!!!!
For the people complaining about Fox News they sure do have quite a bit of info on it. Some even have the commentators sayings memorized. I wonder if they know their faithful following is boosting their ratings.
Doesn't it make you feel impotent, that you Lefties keep posting stuff like this but the Fox News audience keeps growing while CNN and MSNBC keep shrinking?
The fact of the matter is all these "cable news" networks have lost so much credibility over the last couple of decades, that almost nobody watches them now. Now that cutting the cord is gaining stream, I expect these numbers will fall more.
A "couple of decades" ago all you had was CNN. Fox News started in 2003, and MSNBC in 2000. Were you thinking of the "big three" broadcast networks? I agree that the left-leaning big three are becoming less relevant in the face of Fox News.
Quote:
On any given day, less that 1% of the USA population watches these channels in total. (25-64)
i.e. They are irrelevant. Arguing over them is like arguing over a bucket of sand at the beach.
I don't agree with your analysis that "less than 1%" of the population watches cable news. I think less than 1% watches it "all day", but a lot of people tune in, especially for big events like the Nepal earthquake or the Baltimore riots.
Anyway, the minority that watches cable news are the party activists and the politicos. The drooling masses are watching DWTS and Keeping up with the Kardashians.
It's interesting that conservatives think the network television news is liberal biased, but think that Fox is Fair and Balanced(R). Most independents and liberals feel that network news is pretty balanced, but think that Fox is biased. How can we watch the same programs and come out with an opposite opinion about bias?
This *may* support the notion that people tend to feel that any news channel perceived to describe news or express opinions not favorable to their own ideology will be deemed automatically as being biased. NPR: "Most, but not all, of the slaveowners were white." Some of You: "Holy sheet, NPR is biased!!!!!!" FOX: "Isn't affirmative action unnecessary for children of privileged blacks?" Some of You: "Holy sheet, Fox is biased!!!!!"
In my opinion, the biggest reason for the divisiveness in this country is largely attributable to the sprouting of media outlets that cater only to their target demographics. Not only Fox, but also MSNBC and, you say, CNN and NPR. Many of us want to hear only stuff that follows our preconceived narratives, what do they call it, "Dittoheads" (which is an unintentionally appropriate term for this). Many of us are no longer able to see things from the other side. No more being reasonable, informed, compromising or intelligent. We are fed ridiculous crap that we end up parroting without thought. It's a real shame.

Not at all. It does however concern me that so many people are such fools. Also, if you read some of my previous post you'd know I don't watch any of them.

One might wonder how you know so much about any media outlet you purport not to watch.

Your obsession just seems odd to me. I mean, I don't like MSNBC and every time I watch them I can pick out the bias (yes, I can pick out the Fox bias, too). But my dislike of MSNBC doesn't rise to such a level that it causes me to post anti-MSNBC screeds apropos of nothing.

I get my news online.
