Why would the PHA operate Section 8 housing in an expensive, upper-middle-class community? Most HOAs wouldn't even allow this to happen. PHA has government-imposed limits on how much it can give out in vouchers.
You apparently don't understand how Section 8 housing works.

I think we are going to be seeing more of this type of situation this Summer. There are so many teens out there of all colours that have zero disregard for authority starting with their parents lack of discipline. They think they are above the law and they are impervious to harm.

The Police get called to the scene because who else are you going to call and one cop goes a bit too far. Many cops have a chip on their shoulder and they expect their orders to be followed. It looked like the kids in that video where causing problems and not following the simple orders to disperse.

Yes the short cop was rather heavy handed toward that girl but why didn't she just leave the scene instead of coming back 2- 3 times? It is sad that his "heavy hand" had to be used where the girls parents should have been using a "lite soft hand" for years leading up to this melee.
Parents need to teach their kids discipline before they are caught in a potentially deadly situation involving the police.

That short cop needs to be disciplined and should probably get a desk job.

What I saw was a bunch of disrespectful kids not listening to the orders of a police officer. Then I saw two young men act in an aggressive fashion toward the police officer. I don't care what color they were or what type of housing voucher they used, they were clearly in the wrong.

Just the fact that they need to have a security guard at the pool is quite telling about this neighborhood. It does not surprise me that CNN neglected or choose not to relate "Section 8" information in this article.

This is very telling from the CNN article:

Quote:
A mother who was at the party gave a similar account. She spoke with her back to CNN's camera and didn't want to be identified, saying neighbors who vocally supported the officer had received death threats.
These kids have become brazened and believe they are in the right to challenge any police officer directive. This will only get worse. Parents, teach your kids to respect police officers and have their day in court. Or, simply stay away from trouble. These kids were evidently looking for it.

Long story short, a mother and daughter who are Section 8 tenants in the community, held an unpermitted, mass party (open attendance, promoted over social media). They advertised a pool party in the community's park and pool by sending out open invitations over social media.

The town pool is only open to registered residents with ID. If a resident wants to hold a pool party, they may, by applying for a permit, and the total number of people attending the pool party is limited to 20. They did not apply for a permit, and they had apparently about a hundred teens show up, expecting a pool party. When they were not allowed entry to the pool area, they started jumping the fence. That's when police were called.

The officer who drew his gun apparently did so not in response to the teenage girl, but to a man whose actions and motions indicated he might be about to draw a weapon.
Is there proof that anyone who lives in the community is in section 8 housing? Is there proof that this particular mother and child are getting section 8 vouchers?

Here

In 2008, a group called the Inclusive Communities Project, a housing nonprofit borne out of another discrimination suit in 1990, sued the City of McKinney as well as the Housing Authority of the City of McKinney (MHA for short), claiming the city was standing in the way of a plan to build public housing for very low-income families (who are mostly black and Latino) on McKinney’s west side—the same side of town where Officer Casebolt pulled his gun on Friday evening. The suit alleged that officials had limited Section 8 housing to the east side of town, thus creating a segregated city:
Quote:
when white residents tell black residents to go back to Section 8 housing, they’re telling them to return to the segregation that endured there until at least 2009. That context is important when it comes to understanding what’s transpired in McKinney, Texas, since.

I very much do.
HOA can refuse to allow Section 8 voucher recipients to move into the community, as can the landlords, and they most often do in neighborhoods such as that one.

I don't know about McKinney but HUD is turning to the voucher system for Section 8.
And some cities are passing laws that no homeowner or landlord can discriminate against Section 8 applicatants.

I know Austin was proposing that and many investor owned homes hit the market during that timeframe.

McKinney does have Sec 8 apartments but also has Sec 8 vouchers.
The people with the vouchers can live wherever they want and just pay the difference in rent.

Exactly. I highly doubt anyone in that community is getting Section 8 housing.

There's no way to tell. You cannot discriminate against Sec 8 and it does not have to be made public.

But investors like Sec 8 because it's guaranteed money.
