New York man tasered by Chinese restaurant staff after purchasing homeless man a hot meal - 9news.com.au

Quote:
A customer at a Chinese restaurant in New York was tasered by staff on Wednesday in a dispute over a dollar.

Heirberto Chavez, 35, arrived at New Panda Restaurant, near New York's Port Authority Bus Terminal, on Wednesday just before 9.30pm to pick up some food that he had already paid for.

Before entering the store, he encountered a homeless man standing outside - who claimed he needed $2.75 (AU $3.54) to purchase himself a hot meal.

Chavez then paid for the homeless man's meal by putting down a $5 bill, but instead of receiving $2.25 (AU $2.90) change, he only received $1.25 (AU $1.61).

Are tasers legal here? Never heard of someone getting tased in NYC before. (besides NYPD)

I hope Mr Chavez gets a nice payday off this incident if he indeed turns out to be the victim.

What the hell does the homeless man angle have to do with this incident at all? It was a dispute over change that resulted in pissed off people. Its not cool, but it happens.

Many would gladly give up a dollar NOT to be tased.

Lolol. Well it's illegal for tasers to be owned privately in NY. So there you go. Yet again, someone has managed to get his hands on something to use criminally that a law-abiding citizen who might want to use it at home for protection wouldn't be able to.

Proliferation of weapons makes people less safe, not more safe.

Why do you think the U.S. has like 100x the gun-related murder rate as any other developed nation? We don't have lower crime, it's much more dangerous in Paris or London than NYC or LA, we only have far more gun-related crime because we are gun-crazy in this country and want no restrictions whatsoever.
