What do you think? If this happens, I feel bad for those who truly need it to survive.
Pure scare tactics, it's never going to happen. They will rob Peter to pay Paul, always have, always will. We would have plenty of money to cover everybody if they eliminated fraud. That's not going to happen either, so round and round we go.

There are ways to really fix this, but there's not much political will to do so. Obama has had 2 terms to do something, anything, and he gets to skate on it.

Heaven knows they would NEVER talk about going after food stamps and welfare. Easier to start pointing fingers at those that don't have huge lobbying groups and loud mouthpieces who benefit off of them.

I agree that there are people who shouldn't be receiving SSDI but how about let's root those out as well as the welfare,medicare/medicaid and foodstamp frauds instead of shafting everyone on any of the programs.
I've been disabled since 1999 (when SSDI was hard as heck to get btw) and cannot afford to take a 20% haircut.

Can any of you?

SSDI is tragically abused but is at its core a good program. The abuse needs to be eliminated vigorously.

You have some judges with a 99% approval rate on SSDI petitions.

And historically SSDI spikes during economic downturns with job losses.
And this time is especially bad because they changed the rules for what qualifies which added more subjective disabilities. More than 50% of claims are for mental impairments.

For some it has become long term unemployment until SS kicks in.
The judge ought to be Judge Judy.

Great so we are going to continue to de-fund assisting the mentally ill.

Is there fraud yes....whether it's Wall Street/White House/Inner City you name it........people commit fraud.

How does one live on 1k per month legally for those that have all the answers huh when you have no support network at all. My friend in Denver grinds it out and her QOL sucks ass and will for the rest of her life. She would gladly hand you over the 1k for the happiness that some of us have.

Some can move to a low cost area like OK like one poster seems to have done but those options are limited.

We start wars get good people killed they come back with PTSD and we kick them to the curb.

It's a real disgrace that they are going after the most vulnerable people. Social Security can not only be preserved, but expanded, by lifting the cap on taxable income, and that is something most Americans want to see done, according to polls. Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has for a long time proposed this. If we organize and stand together, the fight against the powerful forces that attack the elderly, the veterans, the disabled and the poor will be won.

I urge everyone who believes it is important to fight for the dignity of the most vulnerable people in the society to organize to fight for the preservation and expansion of Social Security.

Fro my understand by law the funds are separate and stand alone under SS. It requires a law change. Now that will be difficult to say the least in these times. But they will let it ride to crisis as they have for decades after being warned by trustees. as required by the law.
