If he doesn't qualify for death then who does? Maybe if he were black.
After OJ was let go by the black members of a jury because he was black, to the wide applauds of the black crowd who couldn't care less if he was a double murderer as long as he was black... I don't honestly give a ***** anymore.
Funnily, though, before all of this, OJ seems to had been leading a very "white" life if you know what I mean. He certainly didn't seem to associate much with "black" culture yet he gladly used it to get away with double murder.
An unfortunate decision. What's the point of even having the death penalty if someone like Holmes doesn't receive it? He's a very good candidate for it.
He didn't get it because one of the jurors felt mentally ill people shouldn't be put to death (and regardless whether he was legally insane or not, he is clearly mentally ill). I for one, whether I agree or not, am glad she did what SHE felt was the right thing rather than doing what the "crowd" wanted her to do, i.e. the popular thing. I would hope if I'm ever on trial, I have 12 jurors who stay true to their inner compass just as this one did.
I don't see what the difference really is, it's not like old England where he'd be paraded out and put to death the next morning, in reality he'd be in jail undergoing appeals for the next 15 years.

Nice try buddy!
OJ got off because the jury felt that LAPD was incompetent and may have fudged around with the evidence. People celebrated because Johnny Cochran was finally getting the recognition he deserved after all those years as a prominent Los Angeles civil rights attorney.
Considering the number of innocent black men (see Innocence Project or lynching photos from 1870 to 1955) that have been legally killed/incarcerated, it's only natural that people would want to see SOMEONE get over on the system.
