And Islam certainly has a lot of exhortations and beliefs which, when put into practice, are fundamentally problematic with universal human rights. And I'm certainly not defending Christianity here, or any other religion either. But to pretend that a local Buddhist temple opening up would cause concern, or lack of concern, in the same is.. a lie (those Buddhists trying to impose tranquility on others by force!). And to call other people "bigots" and "racists(!)" because they don't care for another's belief system (veganism, Islam, salafism, capitalism, socialism, Zionism, Humanism whatever you want) is easy when you are being dishonest about that fact that different belief system are "equivalent" and all equally justifiable just because the ideology has been labeled a religion.

Yes we protect an individuals right to think what they like, but we don't have to like it or approve of it. Islam isn't very high up on my list of ideologies that respect universal human rights because, like other religions, it supplants them with its own specific non-negotiable truth.
Like it or not, The First Amendment protects not just religious "belief," but also the "free exercise" of religion …

Get over it …
Places like Saudi Arabia and Communist China have no compunction about State control over religious practice ...

"Not allowing this mosque to be built is a violation of my Constitutional rights...Denying me a house of worship in the place I live is unacceptable..We have the right to build a mosque.....

Yup, and the next step would be...

"we have the right to live by our religious laws, and your secular infidel laws do not apply to us."

Next it would be...

"You must live by our sharia laws."

That's exactly the kind of thing that American WASPs worried about when JFK (devout Catholic) was elected ...

Yep, that sounds like a natural progression to me.

Thomas Jefferson had a copy of The Glorious Qur'an in his library …

As far as I'm aware NONE of The Founding Parents put an *asterisk on "*religious liberty," indicating … *does not apply to Muslims ...

Who are these people in Detroit not wanting it? Conservatives?

You should check out the muslim countries. They don't allow any churches or synagogues to be built at all. The only places of worship that are allowed to be built are mosques.

And there are some "Christians" in America who, if they had their way, would allow only churches to be built in America …

Even in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, not everybody is a big fan of The First Amendment ...
