So what? Just how many people would ve affected? If they were of voting age they should already have IDs. That leaves only those coming of voting age. Plenty of time to get a driver license or ID.

Probate judges elected by the people of the county run the driver's licenses offices.

You really should stop reading garbage like this. It is pure lies. Your statement, as well, is a lie although I do not believe you did so intentionally.

The author of that trash piece on raw story is hoping people lap up his steaming pile without verifying.

The state is closing 31 part time satellite offices in 30 counties that handled less than 5% of all driver's licenses. I did some quick research on the listed closures and out of the 31 satellite offices scheduled for closure only 6 are in a majority black county.

So no conspiracy here.

You sure you are from Auburn or just an alumni because if the probate judges run the driver's licenses office why is it that the decision is being made by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency? As for what probate judges can do is renew drivers licenses not issue first time licenses.

You know if it interesting the conservatives recoil at even the least intrusive regulation of guns yet think that any restrictive measure to voting is just peachy keen.

The systematic process of making it disproportionately harder to vote for blacks isn't just a phenomenon in Alabama. It's unconscionable. And the usual suspects will fall all over themselves to excuse and/or deny it.

Any post that mentions specific political parties, to include nicknames or thinly veiled references, will be deleted in its entirety, regardless of what else the post says. While I appreciate that this topic is related to the major two parties in many people's view, as the sticky says Current Events is not supposed to focus on partisan politics. If you want to discuss that aspect of this story please do so in P&OC.

If this becomes too problematic the thread will be closed.

In my county (Escambia) there were two towns with DL offices, Brewton and Atmore.

Brewton (County seat) - 40% black

Atmore - 50+% black

Brewton's office closed, Atmore's stayed open.
