Yet, you already admitted the FAA had already told US Airlines to stay away from the area.
The FAA, (Federal Aviation Administration) the agency of the United States government charged with oversight of all American civil aviation. Last I checked Malaysian Airlines isn't an American chartered airline nor was it flying in domestic airspace, just like Singapore, Virgin Atlantic, Jet, Thai, Pakistan International, Qatar, Etihad, Emirates, or Austrian Airlines all of whom flew similar flight paths on the same day. Flight MH17 was one of 300 flights that flew in Ukrainian airspace that day, 55 of which flew the same path as the downed airliner.
So what does this all mean? It means that attempts to infer that MH17 was diverted over the Donetsk area for yet to be stated but we assume nefarious reasons is, shall we say, highly suspect and that the claim of rebel declared no-fly zone appears to have been declared ex post facto if declared at all since most of the world's air carriers that fly over western Ukraine were totally unaware of any danger.
So what's my purpose, nothing more that keep conjecture and/for bombast from crowding out facts so that people can actually have an intelligent discussion.
All you got to do is ask the Ukraine government for those tapes from the Kiev air traffic control tower.
The government conviscated the tapes shortly after the crash.
And you also have Air India that was flying a plane behind the Malysia plane that heard everything.

As who actually fired the missile... outside of Russia, only Belarus, China and Iran have them so it was either supplied to the Ukrainian separatist or fired by Russian missile crews so who fired it is rather irrelevant since Belarus, China nor Iran are involved in this fight.
You forgot to mention that the Ukraine Military has them too, and had some deployed within range of the flight. Russia has provided Military Satellite photos, that back up their claims that the Ukraine Military had deployed these Missiles, and also claims a US Satellite was over the area at that time, and has asked the US for Photos to back the claims that it was fired from separatist held Territory, which they have not. In fact, we have not provided any Photos, but you can bet we have them. Russia is the only one who has provided Photos.
Frankly, I don't trust any of them. We will never know who is responsible., and can only speculate.

The US has not released the photos and the Ukraine government has not released the Kiev air traffic controller tapes although wisewino posted a screenshot of something with no source.
Based on what they are NOT providing I'd say the Ukraine shot down that plane and the US is colluding with the coverup.

Go google that and you get more links saying those photos were "faked" by Russia.
The US never released their photos.
"Who" shot it down wasn't in the latest findings.
That's still be investigated and they say it will be done sometime next year.
Now the big question is...why aren't the Dutch investigators demanding all this evidence that various countries said they had ?
Russian photos (they have), US photos, Kiev air traffic control tapes, IA plane that was right behind them tapes, etc. ?
What we do see are a lot of sob stories from passenger families.
Air India flight was 90 seconds away when missile struck Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 - The Times of India
As instructed by the controller, the AI pilots tried to contact the Boeing 777 after its transponder display went off the radar. The message they sent was: "Malaysian 17, this is Air India 113. How do you read?" There was, of course, no response.
Yes, I did have, but didn't write it down. At the time I Googled "Who Has BUK Missiles." The Russian Photos where on that site, with much more. Sorry.
