Scott Weiland, formerly lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, passed away at 48, RIP. Probably about average lifespan for a Heroin addict. Great singer, talented lead for a great band IMO, he just never could get control of his addition for any length of time. Contrast him with RHCP lead singer, Anthony Kiedis, who seems to have controlled his addiction now for quite some time. Why does it seem so many talented singers are so tormented by life and addictions?

Sad. They say heroin is a death sentence. I liked STP a lot.

I liked STP. However he was a junkie. Lucky to live to 48. Not much of a shocker!

I think we are likely to see a wave of this. Many middle and upper middle class people have an opiate jones now, thanks to big pharma and docs who handed out Lortab and Oxy like gum balls.

They turn to heroin when Dr. feel good gets busted or looked at by the DEA, or the local board of pharmacy. Next thing you know, it's cheap, efficient heroin.

But you keep worrying about weed, notmeofficer. Cause that's the big problem.

No it wasn't a shock...when someone is a heroin user, you just don't when they're just not going to wake up. Still I have to say I've known so many talented brilliant people that struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, such a waste. I still hope we can find a 'cure' for drug/alcohol abuse...painful to see one you care about destroying themselves.

I found a cure a long time ago.

It involves self discipline, power of will and growing up.

Doesn't work for everyone though. Just those that value their life and want to continue living.

And as far as a 'cure' for heroin addiction. I have a friend that lacked the ability to just stop using heroin without help a few years ago, so he had to start taking methadone and he has been doing fine with it and still alive, although technically addicted to methadone.

He reportedly was clean for 12 years (heroin) but admitted to a coke binge or two....

He had a couple teenagers with the 2nd wife. His brother died of cardiomyopathy so it may come out that contributed to his death if it runs in the family.
