New littoral combat ship name sparks anger - CNNPolitics.com

Yet more PC'ers running amok. To me, this problem has an easy solution... make it the USS Samuel L Jackson.

I don't care much about the name of this ship but why Jackson? There are many others I'd choose first.

I think a different name should have been chosen and not because of the president's past, but for the fact that this is the 3rd ship with his name on it.

They didn't name the ship after President Jackson, they named it after Jackson, Mississippi.
Only Carriers are named after the full names of Presidents.
That is why the ship is called the USS Jackson, not the USS Andrew J. Jackson.

bill (BM3, USN, 87 to 91, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower)

An Independence-class LCS? It's the good people of Jackson, Mississippi, who should be offended.

Directly from the article.

"The ship is the Navy's third to bear the seventh president's name."

Good job educating the unenlightened. But then these are the same ones who are offended by anyone/anything.

Directly from the article.

the new ship, also designated LCS 6, was commissioned in Mississippi on Saturday and honors Jackson, Mississippi, which the Navy noted in a news release is named for former President Andrew Jackson.

Silly complaint, IMO.
