Kudos to the leadership shown on this issue by both the administration as well as the several states that have either legalized or decriminalized marijuana, or allow for it medicinally - without that prodding, Congress never would have acted.

Tucked deep inside the 1,603-page federal spending measure is a provision that effectively ends the federal government's prohibition on medical marijuana and signals a major shift in drug policy.
The bill's passage over the weekend marks the first time Congress has approved nationally significant legislation backed by legalization advocates. It brings almost to a close two decades of tension between the states and Washington over medical use of marijuana.
Under the provision, states where medical pot is legal would no longer need to worry about federal drug agents raiding retail operations. Agents would be prohibited from doing so.
Note:
I do not use marijuana in any form. I simply don't support wasting any more limited civic resources on the policy of banning cannabis, which has been a complete and total failure.

Federal Prohibition on Pot is like the Federal Prohibition on Alcohol.
- Doesn't work
- Makes criminals out of otherwise honest people for simple possession.
- Encourages gangs & organized crime.
It should be abolished.
The funny thing is, the "Reefer Madness" crowd can't seem to tell me why they (the government) amended the Constitution for prohibition of alcohol, and later went through the process to repeal it, but did no such thing with cannabis. All I seem to get is the proverbial shrug of the shoulders and "oh well," and other lame a** excuses! In other words when it was banned they pretty much did an end around the amendment process to pander to special interests. Back then it was the paper industry, and Dupont! Today, it's Big Pharma, Big Alcohol, Big Tobacco, and the Prison Industrial Complex, which includes of course judges, LEO, lawyers, prosecutors....ect... Follow the money! At any rate... time to stop the gravy train, and focus on more pressing issues than messing with folks for growing, consuming or possessing a plant!
