Well at least Chicago has the drug trade under control!
This. The drug war you see in Mexico is happening in parts of Chicago. It really has nothing to do with gun control unless you think criminals are going to follow the law and buy guns legally. I'll be shocked if El Chapo isn't sent to Chicago first.
On a side note, all of the murder really doesn't even faze me with the exception of the expressway shootings. I think there were like 28 or 29 in 2015 and 1 or 2 so far this year.
The map below shows where people were shot in Chicago, broken down by community area. Darker shades of blue indicate greater numbers of victims in those community areas.
This data is compiled from reporting done by the Chicago Tribune Breaking News staff and is typically updated more than once per week. Therefore, the most recent shootings may not be displayed immediately.
Note that the shootings are all concentrated in 22 areas almost all of which are in segregated poor neighborhoods. I lived in Chicago for over 35 years (in a North Suburb and in a condo on the north side). In all that time, I heard ONE gun shot and that was when an animal control officer had to come and put down a deer that had been hit by the *el* train near my house. I worked in Pilsen which was a predominantly Mexican area with quite a bit of gang violence, yet during the day, gangs were mostly inactive and I never saw the violence there except second hand (from the students at the school I taught at). Pilsen is included in the lower west side on the map at the url.
A HUGE number of cops that are sick, twisted ----'s who should be kicked off the force or put behind bars.
El Chapo's cartel has taken Chicago from bad to much worse. More than 7K guns researched in a local crime lab belonged to gang members who are savvy about attaining weapons.
Guns are being bought in neighboring states and counties. In recovering guns used in crimes committed from 2009 - 2013, more than half came from Indiana and counties adjacent to Cook County, where Chicago is located. The laws are much looser in those locations. In a different compilation they also found a large number of guns coming in from Mississippi.
The minimum sentence for illegal gun possession here is only a year, which is light compared to other places. Judges tend to stick to the minimum when sentencing for this crime.
Rahm and his crooked machine need to go with the entire CPD being revamped.
What's funny is that some people seem to think the entire city is like that. As with basically every city, crime is reduced to a certain area. I don't understand why that's hard to comprehend. And hey, I know people who live in Chicago. They LOVE it. Why aren't they hiding in their houses cowering? I mean, if it's such a dangerous city like some claim, the least they should be doing is hiding inside.
Crime is NOT limited to a certain area. It was when I lived in the city, but no longer. The only places that seem really devoid of real crime are the outlying areas closest to the suburbs, but that may be because a lot of Chicago cops live in those areas.
