America is a land of 300 million immigrants of all races, denominations, and mental status. You are bound to find a few fruit loops.

The US government has been doing this for some time via the state department travel warning web sight that pops up on the top of any yahoo or google search.

Agree totally with you. If you are going to a foreign land, be aware of their customs and do nothing to draw attention to yourself. This is a college age boy, and they never do the right thing anyway. I know, because I was that guy a few years back. Wait till you have your own family....You will think twice about every action you are considering taking.

Forget knowing customs, just don't go - it's North Korea. Would you travel to Iran ? Or Libya ? How about Pakistan or the Tribal Territories ?

The first rule is don't be stupid because now this guy is a liability to the USA; he will be a continuing propaganda tool for the North.

He should be intelligent enough to know that hotels just about everywhere have closed-circuit cameras monitoring the hallways.

There's a perfect job for Warmbier when he gets back since he loves to travel and collect things.

Summer internship lets you travel the country, drink beer, collect $12K | Fox 59

Holy **** people. I'm the most tough love person out there but I just don't get how so many people can say he deserves this etc. He's a COLLEGE kid who tried to take a sign. In college I took a few street signs...who hasn't done that or something similar or something way more stupid? He had a lapse of judgement. Like we all do. Difference is, now his life is essentially over. Do you guys not realize what hard labor is there? A concentration camp. Like the nazis. He'll probably die. WTF is wrong with all you people.

Or he could drop a few pounds and work as a spokesman for Subway. It certainly shouldn't be difficult to slim down on the North Korean diet of sticks, dirt, and millet husks.

Lightbulb Why do Americans keep traveling to N Korea?!!

Look at it this way...

Americans who don't go to N Korea never end up in N Korean jails.

This isn't complicated.
