My favorite are the "hikers" in Iraq that "accidently" went over the Iran border. Who the heck hikes in Iraq?

I did used to go with them , just not now . Something is just telling me no .

We stopped International travel years ago when we felt that they wanted our money, not us!

So, MrsM and I are very happy to National Park hop in the US. It's amazing how NPs are right where some of our most beautiful National gems are found

Wow, 5 pages in and no one has mentioned what is quite likely the most realistic motivator for this young man:

Spoiler
Yellow Fever

The dude's name is Otto... you don't think he might want to see if he could land some cute Asian tail while in their homeland?

Also, nothing in the article hints at him being a bible thumper, so I don't think he was interested in converting people. He did have an interest in Finance and Investment Management, none of which strikes me as being into any sort of missionary except the position...

Even the business in and around the National Parks want your money.. I hope the government leaves this guy on his own in NK. Let his parents try to get him out. I think the government should cancel the passports of those that insist on putting themselves in danger.

I do know of a couple that is on Youtube, who traveled to a very dangerous Middle East country, they travel on their bikes filming. Well, the wife was raped (why the husband allowed her to walk around alone, I don't understand) they even stated they knew going in with his wife-they were at risk...

I think one cannot go in with rose colored glasses but going outside one can meet their fate..good luck in this world, we all need it.
It doesn't matter what your motivation is. You don't go to places like North Korea. Period.

They go because modern Americans are incrediblly stupid and do imbicillic things.

Plus a lot of these "Americans" are not really American. They are Koreans, or wherever, with a US passport, often naturalized, so it's not like Andy Griffith taking Ope to visit Dear Leader.

When my Dad visited Korea back in the 50's he took a BATTLESHIP along.

Anyway, just send Dennis Rodman back over to continue his bromance with the fat guy, he'll gitem back.

Visiting North Korea would be cool though when visiting another country you must respect the local laws. I have seen many videos of Americans visiting North Korea and don't believe North Koreans hate us though instead hate our government.

I want to go to North Korea and start a school for underpriviled kids: 'The School For Underprivileged North Korean Kids That Can't Skydive Good & Want to do Other Sports Good Too.'

And to commemorate the opening of it, have Motley Crue re-unite for their first show ever in North Korea.

With all the countries in the world to travel and most are relatively safe, this idiot picks North Korea? I can't feel badly for him.
