Four people have been killed and two others are critically injured after a gunman opened fire at a school in western Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says.

The alleged shooter, a student at the school, is now in custody.

Another senseless tragedy. Can we stop giving these maniacs the spotlight already? It only encourages the next nutbag to do the same.

To be fair, the article didn't even name the shooter. They rightfully went by "suspect".

It's a step in the right direction, but I think even that is too much.

There's a reason why they don't televise idiots running out on to the playing field, the same should apply here.

I noticed that to. Not naming the shooter would probably reduce the number of mass shootings, as some of the mass shooters are motivated by the possibility of being famous. But knowing who the shooter was is in the public interest, and can help to identify trends and causes. And more importantly, maintaining freedom of speech trumps the small reduction in the overall homicide rate (I would guess a tenth of one percent of the annual national homicide rate of 26,000) that result from not releasing the shooter's name.

The suspected shooter is a juvenile. The RCMP don't release the names or photographs of underage suspects during any investigation and they ask the media, family members, witnesses and other concerned community members to respect that policy.

That is incorrect. Maybe that would happen in whatever nation you live in? Not in Canada.

He killed his two younger brothers at home and then 2 teachers at school plus he attempted to kill 7 others at the school. He's being charged with 4 counts of first degree homicide and 7 counts of attempted homicide. He won't be getting out into society again.

Given the sentence that the RCMP killer in Moncton New Brunswick got, 25 years times three dead Police officers, a total of 75 years before any possible parole, the La Loche shooter should get 100 years. Four times 25 years, before any chance of parole.

I don't care if he was drunk, I don't care if he was high, I don't care if he was suicidal........

He killed four people, two of whom were his own brothers, and he also wounded 7 other people. That is first degree, pre meditated murder. There is NO doubt WHO did it, there is no doubt that HE did it, and there is no doubt that HE was the shooter. In a community of 2000 people, everyone knows each other.

That merits a life sentence.... he should die in prison.
