Whoa, that's insane.

I'm having trouble believing she and the donor were able to time things so perfectly. As a PP said, sperm doesn't live that long.

Inquiring minds...

Try reading the article:

She collected the bags and used a syringe to impregnate herself, thereby forcing authorities to commute her death sentence to one of life imprisonment.

Fortunately, communist states are not role-models for the American judicial system.

Calm down. The poster was obviously referring to the strategy of the inmate, not the moral implications of the move.

Some people are so enamored if their own dogma that they never bother to actually look at the fact that the states that execute the most people have among the highest violent crime rates in the country. It makes me wonder if they really care about reducing the crime rate, or just support the death penalty because it makes them feel good.

I live in Minnesota. We have no capital punishment. We also have the second-lowest incarceration rate in the country (it's nice paying less to incarcerate fewer people). The result? We have the 10th-lowest violent crime rate. It's also nice living in a low-crime state.

Personally, I don't much care either way about capital punishment. But I certainly don't pretend it does anything for criminal justice other than give some people a warm fuzzy.

Another poster who didn't bother to read the article. See above.

Too lengthy a process?

I'd wager $100k your thoughts on that would change if you were falsely accused, convicted and sentenced to death for a crime you did not commit.
