All the boys are 8 years old and they're in 1st grade? And it's not an alternative school?
Why at age 8 would they be in 1st grade? I started 1at grade when I was five years old.
There is a serious lack of discipline among youth today, compared to 50 years ago; however for the more well adjusted of children the change offers more ability for creative learning. It does oppress the poor and the least educated.
The mom of the victim could call Child Protective Services to report the disturbed behavior of the other two boys, but the article says the agency is already getting involved. We can wait and see if there's a follow-up to this.
I think there would be legal recourse against the school since this happened while the student was in care of a school employee (Bus Driver).
Perhaps. Probably. Hard to tell.
I just remember that all the principals in my school district had to attend an all day session with a law firm that specialized in school law. 6 hours of them outlining cases and then asking us to vote on whether the school or school personnel were negligent. Often we voted negligence, but in almost all cases the court decisions were on the side of not negligent.
To me it would be negligence in supervision. The problem, doesn't sound like there's any evidence.

Maybe, and maybe not. In some states/areas (like mine for example), the school district does not own or operate the school buses. That service is contracted to private companies by individual school districts. That bus service must conform to state/district regulations (yellow buses, driver qualifications, etc.), but they are not the responsibility (liability) of the school district.
Eagle mountain is operated by Goldstar transit.... its a sister location to ours. I have no clue if they have cameras on their buses. We are supposed to have assigned seats on the bus. Depending on the run the bus may have already been rowdy. Have you ever tried keeping and eye on 20 plus kids in a confined space while driving? Was this a sub or regular driver?
Too many details missing. Clearly they interviewed the other kids(not the attacker) and stories didnt pan out to match the assult. The school can only do so much if there no proof I one way or the other and can't just go by 1 persons words..... and if the other kids have no previous disiplinary actions on file there is no history to show problems were brewing.
Did she talk to the bus driver? Or just go yell at the school..... which doesn't always get back to the driver and notify of a problem to watch for or move seats....
I have 3 cameras on my brand new bus. And there is still a 6 seat blind spot right in the middle of the bus! Ugh. Thankfully I have good kids (after a 3 week standoff in the beginning of the school year)
Do you think that things like this didn't happen 50 years ago?
Let's see, 50 years ago puts us in the middle 60's. Riding on a school bus and performing a sex act on an eight year old then? Unheard of.
First back then you lived in fear of the bus driver. Goof off on the bus and he'll come back there and box your ears. If that wasn't enough more than likely the school would call your parents. Both of them. If my father the WW2 Marine Guadalcanal veteran heard about that it would be curtains for me.
Back then families were much larger then they are now and more than likely older brothers or sisters would also be riding on the bus. Touch the little sibling? The brothers and/or sisters are gonna pound ya. In those days you were taught respect for other people. Did I mention the fear of consequences of bad behavior. Something that was always in the back of your mind if you had any funny ideas. Now you can't discipline the little SOB because his feelings or self image may be hurt. Gimme a break.
Back in the 60's we didn't even know what a "sex act" was at eight years old. The most controversial thing you saw on one of the two or three channels you received was Laugh In. No TV programs with sexual situations. No internet porn. The TV stations stopped broadcasting at ten thirty pm and the TV was turned off and off to bed.

Once she's reported it to school officials they have to report to CPS. No updates on this story (I live in the DFW area) so that tells me that there are lawyers involved. There is still something about the mother's demeanor and actions that throws me off.

Not sure what boxing ears means but our kids get disciplined on the bus by getting assigned seats after the principal gets involved. They fear the principal but only when in their presence. It doesn't get them far but that's about all anyone can do.
If you're suggesting the bus driver should be laying a hand on my kids, I would have quite the problem with that. Are you kidding me? "Back then" a lot of things were accepted but that doesn't mean it was right.
Edit>> just read about boxing ears. Guess people didn't care that it is actually pretty dangerous to their hearing.
Wow, time to do an investigation on their home lives. They learned this behaviour somewhere.
