"I make my own lattes at home"
"I roast my own coffee at my house"
Thats cute, but no one cares! No one is talking about what u do for your coffee at home. We're talking about the Starbucks reward program.
I personally am a HUGE consumer of Starbucks as I go there 7 days a week. I probably visit starbucks 340 days a year, no exaggeration. I love it.
Earned on average about 3 free drinks per month.
Is this change going to stop me from going? No.
Does it kinda suck for me? Yeah.
Does it really change my life? No. So life goes on. I'll continue to consume the same amount of starbucks.
Well what they did was add a few zeros to those points. That knocks the little guy out of the picture.
If you are cutting costs you don't go and hire more employees
If you are cutting costs, it's not smart to implement a "reward" that encourages your customers to require so more of your cashier's time that lines form out the door.
I am a daily Frappucino junkie and I often get a sandwich there as well. I never thought to ring the items separately. I think I'm going to come out ahead under the new system.

That was the old way. The new way depends on $ not transactions so things should move faster.
I have been gold since 2007. I found it a perk just to get a free drink after ten stars.
If I was buying two drinks, I never had them rung up separately. It is about drinking coffee when I need it, not about the stars.
The stars are just an added bonus for me.

It was a loophole they closed. Now it's based on how much you spend, not how many separate purchases you make.
I go to Starbucks 5 times a week. I didn't even know they had a reward program till the news a few days ago. I could not be bothered with a program that requires you to purchase 20 drinks just to get a free one. I used the buy 5 get on free cards for grande ice coffee last summer, that made more sense, as usually it ended up being buy 3 or 4 and get one free as the barrista would often double punch my card.
As it was the reward program just encouraged people to make multiple purchases, which slowed the line down. I'd prefer they get rid of the rewards program entirely.
And while on the subject of Starbucks, set a time limit for people using the seating. Maybe an hour max per purchase. This is a big problem in the Boston area. Mostly it is the college age crowd parking their lap tops in a seats for hours, some of them not buying anything, leaving a shortage of seats.
eta: I have probably been to 60 different Starbucks, I should get some award for that
