Maybe what makes it funny is that most people that age don't talk like that. We don't expect it. When something happens we don't expect, it often seems funny just because we don't expect it. But that doesn't make it wrong. Just funny.

Good point. Sure we are laughing at the way she is expressing herself because it is different from the way most of us speak. But she is being herself and keeping it together after a scary experience. So I think beyond the interesting language, people admire her for that.
It was quite a few years ago when an 86 y.o. lady had her purse grabbed in the parking lot of a Wegman's market near me. By one of those miscreants who prey on the weakest among us. This poor soul was knocked to the ground where she hit her head and sustained a subdural hematoma.
After a month in the hospital, she expired. Amazingly, the announcement was that her death was NOT due to the purse-snatching! While I'm trying to wrap my head around that determination, I have to wonder what this lady might have commented had she had a chance to be interviewed about her experience. Sadly, we'll never know.
I still cook - I just don't carry a purse. Pockets to contain phone, car keys, credit card.
Wouldn't it just be poetic justice if, while the purse thief was busy with her victim, some other thug was attacking her elderly relative. And "dindu nuffin."
Do you mean because it happened in a parking lot at a supermarket?
This could happen anywhere, though, at any store or just being outdoors though.
My purse is always slung over one shoulder at an angle over the opposite hip. It would be very difficult for anyone to snatch it without pulling me along with it. It's a purse in which every compartment is zipped and it's a small one just big enough to carry essentials like a credit card, cash and keys. Smaller ones are less of a target.
I sometimes see women leaving their purses in their shopping carts while walking over to pick something up off a shelf. Not a good thing to do.

Don't carry anything valuable in the purse. Just credit cards and other such plastic junk.
