Oh well, hopefully he had some fun and stashed a little for when he gets out of jail.
I mean what's he going to get? A year or two, three? Considering the total security incomptence. I'd just say I lost it in a tragic boating accident on the way to Equador. Three years, $500,000 a year, compounding interest. Sign me up! LOL.

Was thinking along the same lines the other night after news of arrest broke.
It is all but certain this suspect didn't carry that gold back to Ecuador. Thus we can assume it was fenced (probably for pennies on dollar), and or otherwise disposed of. I mean the guy couldn't just wire over one million from USA to anywhere; well he could if he knew Tony Soprano's Russian money launders, but they take a cut as well.
Carrying that much cash on him as he "walked across the border" to get back home would also be dangerous (robbery).
Anyway this all may be moot since Ecuador does not permit extradition thus the suspect will be tried in that country. Maybe that country can get him to tell where the gold/money went/is, but highly doubt it; the suspect can simply wait out his sentence (if convicted) and return home to live off the proceeds for the rest of his life.
