"Potheads" is an offensive term. And so is "pot" and "dope" for that matter. It's 2017, it's called cannabis. Many highly educated people choose to consume cannabis and they are definitely not "potheads". This is the equivalent of calling everyone who enjoys an occasional glass of wine or beer an "alcoholic", "drunk", "wino", etc. Calling cannabis "pot" or "dope" is the equivalent of calling a nice craft brew or tasty glass of wine "booze".

And there's your stoner PC lesson of the day.

Nevada has a bad enough reputation as sin city without the dopers making the cities IQ drop even further. One wonders how the casino industry will be able to hire anyone who can pass a drug test.

If you look on marijuana.com I'm pretty sure you will see the study showing cannabis users on the average have a higher IQ. Study likely on other sites as well so just typing into search engine should bring it up. Why are you so bitterly against harmless people?

I haven't heard anything about Nevada. Completely slipped right under my radar.

I guess potheads have another sanctuary to go to now.
Meanwhile employers continue to do drug testing, so I don't know what sort of victory this is if you can't hold on to a decent job. I can't think of any good paying jobs that don't do drug testing, and that's a good thing. I wouldn't want to go to the office with a bunch of druggies.

What a load of BS.

Pro pot dopers love to extol the virtues of pot, while totally ignoring it's ills. Pot does not make one smarter, and certainly not more productive in society. It also has health effects which are damaging, and makes some people become violent, vs. the typical Hollywood portrayal of a mellow/passive/harmless pothead.

Which brings up the question, if cannabis is legal, can you legally refuse to hire people who use it?

I would think so. I cannot imagine society would feel comfortable with people in responsible positions, (especially those that deal with life and death).
So I am comforted to know that nuclear plant operators for example are randomly drug tested for all sorts of drugs, include pot.

Until it's legal federally, yes you can refuse to hire, and even fire people who use it.

Adults free to live as they wish without harming others? The only thing wrong with these actions are when politicians make them illegal turning law abiding citizens into criminals. America the free. BS!

The whole prostitution thing is mind boggling. Why on earth does a person have to be in a relationship to have sex? It's a normal biological function. If women want to exchange sex for money, why is that wrong? They do it indirectly all the time. Our society is truly f-ed up. Nothing makes much sense. But then again, look at the buffoon we have as president. Only in a bizarre-O world would any of this make sense.

Default Some employers continue to test for a few stigmatized drugs but ignore alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, etc.

Blame Reagan's "Federal Drug-Free Workplace Program" of the 1980s. The use of random post-employment screening has been in decline over the past decade or so, with less than half of employers doing random post-employment testing of employees. IMHO, people only put up with this kind of testing when unemployment is high and they become desperate enough to sacrifice their dignity for a paycheck.

Even if it is legal federally, you can fire based on use, just like employers who fire smokers. Things would get trickier if medical marijuana becomes legal under federal law.

Take a look at programming, or IT in general. Very good paying jobs, you'd have a tough time finding good programmers willing to work for a company that asks applicants to pee in a cup.

My previous (Fortune 500) employer dropped their drug testing program (both pre-employment and random) when new management came in -- said it was counterproductive and going forward they'd only test where required by law (e.g. drivers).

At my current employer, not only is there no pre-employment drug screening, the owner also refuses to take on any contract requiring drug testing.
