Well, that depends, doesn't it? Is the OSHA of another country our concern?

It's a great tragedy, yes, but do the citizens of another country have any right to enforce the safety regulations or elevator technology on those elsewhere?

It could seem rather outlandish but on the other hand, SOLAS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOLAS_Convention does exist, so I guess it is a question of how much one wants to push it.

Well, no matter how well these things are designed you have 2 factors you can never remove.

1) BILLIONS of elevator rides taken annually. Conservatively, I ride one probably 1000 times a year.
You hear about these once in a great while so we're talking odds of death much much greater than winning the powerball.

2) Human error in terms of maintenance, operation, use and so forth.

Horrific. Luckily the hospitals where my wife gave birth via C-section the operating rooms were on the same floor as the recovery rooms.

Right wing propaganda at its best, to demonize people suing companies.
they refused to pay her medical bills and she had to sue them

Of course those people defending her are also the people that wish to sue gun manufacturers for producing a gun if it is used to kill someone. Let's put the blame where it should be.... personal responsibility.

Now, that poor woman in the elevator. Whole different ball game for that family. Certainly worth of a lawsuit.
Do yourself a favor and read the actual case before making an opinion. Relying on old episodes of Seinfeld or Wikipedia to form an "expert" opinion is likely to remove all doubt that a person is a fool.

That's right. She asked for enough to pay her medical bills. They offered just hundreds. Their choice.

McDonald's had received hundreds of complaints about burns from their scalding coffee, but did nothing about it.

Thanks Campfire, but I'll stick to common sense and leave the psycho.... analysis to others.

'Tis better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

As you likely are unaware, common sense is the most uncommon of all. I'll leave the analysis to legal experts in our country.

If you had done any serious reading about this and/or other cases, you wouldn't be bothering everyone else with your "common sense". You would also experience some cognitive dissonance and perhaps question your own beliefs. As with most folks, they'd rather be "right" than to ever admit being wrong.

Good luck. You're gonna need it...

Serious reading and studying of the actual facts are anathema to those people whose idea of "forming an opinion" on anything consists of simply following and parroting basic talking points rather than taking the time to research and truly understand the complexities of these issues.
