Kids that age stealing vehicles and going for a ride is nothing new. Most kids at the point they get stopped are more cooperative. IMO, most kids who do this have a goal for going some place. This child may need more 'help' than other kids. I'm happy my kids never had this idea when they were this age.

wow! sympathy for the girl? Alrighty then, we have some how gone the wrong direction if allowing pity onto a girl who chose to be reckless . Jeopardizing the community safety is nothing to pity.

The worse part of this, the parent has to cough up the fine fees and endure the public back lash. I feel sorry for the parent moreso then the kid...

You don't think that an 8 year old acting out this way is in some sort of emotional or mental health crisis? And in that case, wouldn't you feel bad for her. We aren't talking about a punk 17 year old...8. This is an 8 year old. Have you met an 8 year old lately? They are not emotionally or mentally mature at all. But a healthy 8 year old wouldn't do this. So where does that leave this story?

I'm just feeling so nosy about this.

I've spent significant time trying to find out more, and there's nothin' online. Just a bunch of people ranting that she needs a beating. And what would have happened to them/their children if they did this.

Something's not right with this child.
Whatever is not right w her, true... but there's something really off about the mother reporting it as stolen--not because she shouldn't have called for help, but reporting it as stolen knowing her 8 yr old was driving is just off-- if she was 16 okay, but 8??

She could've been shot at by the police if they were unaware she was so young. I think another person posted above why didn't she report it as her daughter needed help?

Yea very true--- 8 is sooo young and tender an age, it's not the same as a teenager doing this. When I wS 20 my brother had a friend who was 16 and decided to take his dad's car for a joyride-- totally worlds apart.

Maybe they are just a bunch of idiots who think an 8 year old can be "scared straight"
There's a lot of good police but yes some are idiots-- I was once pumping gas, literally holding the gas pump in my hand pumping. Friggin. Gas.
A police car pulled up and asked me what I was doing! Omg, I paused wondering wth and tried to say it as politely as I could "pumping gas...?"

What??? Did you say kids this age doing this is nothing new?? Where on earth do you live? Or, what planet? Or maybe that was a type-o?? Was there a reason you placed the word help in parentheses?( cuz it usually implies sarcasm but hopefully we all would see she does need serious help, no parentheses...
