According to Popular Mechanics, one of the greatest new technologies that will come out without the next 10 yrs is apparently the ability to email or text tangible objects. Once this is available, 'porch piracy' will be a thing of the past, along with all the package delivery companies!
This will probably be the final nail in brick and mortar retail also, right now, getting the product instantly is the main benefit when it comes to brick and mortar versus online shopping, I would bet Google, Amazon, Alibaba are sinking HUGE money into ensuring this technology sees the light of day!
That's so shameful to steal Christmas gifts from children. Hope those porch thieves are prosecuted.
It's shameful that anyone steals anything that doesn't belong to them.

Tempting. Amazon Key isn't 100%; obviously it only works for Amazon, it can only be used by the account holder who set it up (even if you share Prime accounts), and it isn't available for every delivery from Amazon. You also sometimes have to wait longer for in-home delivery. Interestingly, Amazon Locker was not an option for any of the most recent orders I placed, so I'll be taking my chances with the pirates unfortunately.
I think I'll ask the retired lady across the street to keep an eye out. We help her out from time to time so hopefully she'll be open to helping us out.

This will work only for people who are addicted to their phones.
Obviously, you trust your neighbors inside these guard-gated communities! And you even trust the minimum-wage guard at the gate who could alert others when you leave your gated community?
Too many houses are being rented out today, even in gated communities, and how do you control who these homeowners are renting to?
Not to mention the US Postal Service -- if you're on a temporary vacation mail hold, there have been USPS employees who alert their partners-in-crime to perform all sorts of mischief.
It's beyond disgusting! Not just having Christmas presents stolen, but think about people who have mail-delivery medications.
Has the world gone so nuts that we can't even have shipments delivered to our home unless we're right there to receive packages ourselves?
Even mail is stolen out of mailboxes, many can't just place outgoing mail in the mailbox to be picked up without the risk of it being taken.
This isnt anything new, diverting product shipment has been going on for decades.
Back in the early 90s, around here, we had a truckload of guns destined for a local sporting goods store, stolen, the entire truck was stolen in broad daylight, this was never solved.
Nothing is unhackable. It's a question of how much effort is the average porch pirate going to put into hacking a lock with a keypad just to get at the boring package waiting on the other side of the door...which is far more likely to have vitamins or panty liners in it than something fun like an iPad.
It's not the package. It's the random delivery person getting access to your house and grabbing whatever he wants inside. In theory there's a video record of the whole "drop", but perhaps not!
If you want to get porch pirates.. First off, the blank shotgun shell.. I actually don't recommend for several reasons.. First off, blank ammo can still be considered ammo and some cities probably would have a fit over it. If you're in the south, or Texas.. No problems.. Somewhere like San Francisco would probably charge you.. Plus.. Say it scared the thief and they broke a leg on your property.. Believe it or not, you're liable. Crazy world.
The glitter bomb is actually good, but rather expensive. Not sure it's worth it to do repeatedly at $25/pop. Though, imagine someone opening that in their car. They'd never get that cleaned up.
