No it is not just a Tampa Bay area, it is "all across the country". I have mine delivered to my place of employment.
I used to do the same, but our mailroom was becoming overwhelmed by the volume (particularly this time of year), and we're no longer allowed to have personal packages sent to the office.

Almost every evening on local news, they show a thief stealing packages from home entrances. Since so many people now have front door cameras, the thefts are being recorded. One video showed a woman on a bicycle with here 2 year old kid on a rear seat ride up to a door, and opened a package first to see if it was something she wanted to steal. Another video showed a early 20's male walk up to a door, take a box and walk away with it. He didn't even look to see the senders name. Could have been a box of adult diapers. In another theft, the home owner said that a laptop computer was stolen. Some thieves have been identified and arrested.
Is this just a Tampa Bay area thing or is it going on throughout the U.S.
It's relatively common in my area, yet some people go off on vacation and packages sit on their porches for days undisturbed in plain sight of anyone walking/driving by.
We use Amazon Key for all Amazon deliveries. Anything else...we go to a B&M or we cross our fingers.
I've had things delivered that sat on my porch all day with no problem, yet at the same time many of my neighbors are reporting that their holiday decorations are being stolen at night. It might just be a timing thing.
Surveillance cameras for those in crime-prone areas...
Actually, they don't go to "crime prone" areas. They go to wealthy neighborhoods where most people are gone to work and maids/nannies/handymen/etc come and go during the day. Better package contents, less noticeable, less people looking out for crime. Although more likely to be reported...still not likely to get much police time on the case.
I'm going to bolt/cement a box full of weights to my front porch and record the fun.
