Herrin comes from a wealthy family that has hired a high priced attorney. The attorney's whining that the judge ruled the kid's driver's license is suspended is pretty pathetic. Heaven forbid the family should be inconvenienced after their kid killed 2 people with his car. Entitlement is never flattering.

Yes and no. Pleading guilty at your first appearance is basically asking the judge to give you the harshest penalty possible, which in this case, could be life in prison. It's just the way our system works.
It's MUCH wiser to plead "not guilty," let the attorney do some negotiating with the prosecution, and once a plea deal is reached, THEN plea either guilty or no contest. It's not about "not admitting guilt."

In a cut and dry case like this why would a prosecutor cut a deal? There is no question that the kid did it. Surely a jury would find him guilty.

The Herrin kid was going 102 mph before he hit the brakes.

Report: Mustang was going 102 mph before hitting mother, daughter crossing Bayshore

I haven't seen what ever came of this case. Have these guys gone to trial yet or accepted a plea deal?
