Herrin comes from a wealthy family that has hired a high priced attorney. The attorney's whining that the judge ruled the kid's driver's license is suspended is pretty pathetic. Heaven forbid the family should be inconvenienced after their kid killed 2 people with his car. Entitlement is never flattering.

Yes and no. Pleading guilty at your first appearance is basically asking the judge to give you the harshest penalty possible, which in this case, could be life in prison. It's just the way our system works.
It's MUCH wiser to plead "not guilty," let the attorney do some negotiating with the prosecution, and once a plea deal is reached, THEN plea either guilty or no contest. It's not about "not admitting guilt."
