I'm thinking the boats shouldn't have been out in those rough waters. Very sad story.

Oh God...that's awful. That's horrifying. How sickening...for the woman taking the video. To see that happening in front of your face, and there's nothing you can do about it. I have tears in my eyes.

Death toll now up to 13, with 4 people still missing.

I think most people question why they were in the lake. There were weather warnings at that time. Also, there were life jackets on board. Why didn't the captain order everyone to put it on. There seemed to be enough time, when it was obvious they were in trouble. Also, once they knew they were going down, why did no one attempt to exit the boat? Going down in an enclosed boat creates a vacuum and it's hard to get out. I know hindsight is 20/20 but they were so close to the showboat Branson Belle who had ropes and were offering help. So many questions and so sad. I watched the video last night and it haunted my thoughts. I live only an hour away and took my kids on this when they were little.

I went on one last year in Branson and a week ago passed many while driving near Table Rock Lake.

I always thought they were safe and thought the company running them had enough brains not to risk lives due to weather.

I was wrong.

They were in the middle of a sudden storm. I've heard several times, references to 'sudden storm'. I don't mean this in a smart ass way at all, but I'm guessing "sudden" is a key word in this case. They may have thought they were safer IN the boat, whether than being battered about by the waves.

Also, I imagine families with young kids weren't sure they'd be able to care for the kids, if they jumped off the boat.

I also wonder about the life jackets though.

It wasn't really a sudden storm, there were warnings sent out far enough ahead of time that they knew it was coming. That falls completely on the company and the captain.

Yes indeed.

This makes me sad but also very angry as this could have been easily prevented.

Did he turn the boat crosswind?
