This is the story of Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest. If this story doesn't make you terrified that cops this stupid are out there with the authority to pretty much do whatever they want with you, I don't know what would.
Doesn't sound like a case of stupid, in light of this:

a lawsuit filed by Alix’s family claimed Hendren forced other girlfriends to play similar games.
It sounds premeditated. Sounds like a cop who had a problem with women, in general. But the lady cop was dumb to participate.
The cop who shot and killed his fellow cop is alleged in a civil lawsuit to have forced other females to “play” Russian Roulette. I could find nothing that substantiates that allegation, although it obviously could be true.
The sentence was a plea deal. He will be serving two sentences concurrently.
I am only guessing, but I think this guy might have some sort of suicidal ideation,
The other cop who was there has not been charged. I have no idea if he was disciplined.
I'm surprised he got the max sentence after pleading guilty. I always thought they made a deal with you if you pled.
I believe the article is wrong. It was previously reported that the maximum he could have gotten was 10 years. So he got a three year reduction. Anyway, I'm betting that part of the plea deal was that he would serve the time in protective custody. Which is the most important thing for convicted cops.

If convicted, Hendren faces 3 to 10 years in prison on the manslaughter charge.

They say, that police departments don't like to hire cops who are above average intelligence. This is what you get, when you make that type of choice.
This.
The ideal cop is someone who can't do any other kind of work. They tend to stay on the job longer, because they have no alternative.
