If you google a name all kinds of things can come up, including property records which are public. An unusual name like that makes it all that much easier.

Yes, government can be anally PC.
When I applied for my handicapped hang tag renewal last year, the issuing agency took a closer look at my initials and decided they had to re-arrange them to avoid the possibility of offending someone.
I find it hilarious!

I'd change my last name legally before I'd be worried about getting it on a vanity plate. Musta got tore up in school for it

Of course not. But the State sure likes getting that $20 for every one of them!

When your name is Assman you want the world to know and are more likely to want to put it on your plates.

But who among us considers the word ass offensive anymore? We've all got one. I'm sitting on mine right now.

I’m wondering if it’s actually his given name, or he changed it to that just to do things like this.

Oh, I see, in Canada vanity plates are free! That's nice.

Every State I have lived in here in the U.S. charges an annual fee for such a plate. $20 here in Montana.
Even if you are an Amateur Radio Operator, and want a plate with your call sign on it for identification in an emergency, $20 thank you.
