An armored vehicle belonging to GardaWorld Corp. popped a door and spilled over $175,000 onto an highway outside Atlanta, Georgia, causing stunned motorists to drop everything and grab some of the flying money for themselves.
One video posted on Twitter shows cars stopping in the middle of Interstate 285 as their occupants wasted no time taking advantage of the situation. Another shows a line of cars pulled over – on the shoulder, this time – their owners bending down to grab bills flying through the air. Amazingly, no crashes or injuries (or fights) were reported.
Thats not necessarily always true, if any of you recall a similar armored truck spilling money onto a NJ expressway not long ago, LOTS of people were stopping to gather up money, I believe this went on for a couple days...but no charges ever became of it.
The armored car companies are covered for incidents like this specifically.
While driving along a state highway in Utah I stopped to take a photo of the scenery. When I got out of the car and looked around for the best view for the camera I notice a $100 bill in the grass of the ditch several feet away. It was like new and unfolded. I looked around for some others should they be out there but didn’t see anything else. I wasn’t going to turn it in to anyone and kept it. Picking up litter on the highway pays off sometimes.
I would have picked up 50k and then turn in $500. In reality unless they can proof who was operating motor vehicle and how much you took, it's hard to actually prosecute.
