The embattled cruise operator said it filed the application to wind up the company at the Supreme Court of Bermuda, after the company "exhausted all reasonable efforts to negotiate with the relevant counterparties under its financing arrangements."

The company, controlled by Malaysian tycoon Lim Kok Thay, has been hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic as travel came to a standstill.

This doesnt make sense...they cannot put out arrest warrants over 'debt', even if its millions of dollars...

Not only that, the article states a US marshal would "arrest the ship"...LOL Id love to see that arrest! (slapping the cuffs on the anchor of the ship I assume, LOL)...

The Marshal could not arrest any of the ships crew, (they are only employees of the company)

The authorities were going to seize the ship, not arrest it,,, or any of the ship's crew.

Remember Evergreen on Suez Canal?
Yes, ship can be "arrested" aka held hostage until money is paid or other acceptable agreements are made. And yes, in such cases some crew has to stay on the ship for maintenance. A captain almost always stay on such ship.

It's an actual legal term https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_arrest

Maritime laws go back hundreds of years and are incredibly strict and complex.

The fine print on any cruise booking contract says that while the ship will make a good faith effort to follow the posted itinerary, the schedule and ports are not guaranteed. The usual reason for a route change will be for something like a possible hurricane in the planned path of the ship.

Many ports today open and close daily depending on Covid. Many ships change destinations at the last minute.

Are you trying to make excuses for them? Weather is understandable. But this was NOT the case. It was in fact the opposite. No excuse for not paying the fuel bill and making hundreds of paying clients to "fend" for themselves.
