Tragic story. When they first reported this, it looked like a missing person case. She told her father in law she was going to the gym, and never came back home. She had been missing for 10 days.
Now it looks like it was suicide. Very sad……
She apparently had a lot of mental health challenges over the years.
Reminds me of the model in NYC who jumped to her death. Although in this case, it’s a little weird because apparently she had a new boyfriend and mentally she was feeling the best that she had in years. Also, it’s weird that (assuming she did commit suicide) that she’d go to a restricted Marine base to do it. Also, it seems like she was close with her brother, so to not give any signs or warnings, seems a little odd; especially since she expressed to him how much better she was feeling…..
They are stressing that they don’t believe foul play was involved.

Some people who are contemplating suicide are so depressed that they cannot overcome inertia and proceed with it. Then they feel better (med change, maybe?) and can get off the couch and do it.

Good points. It's a little scary that people are thankfully getting the mental health they need, but we are still seeing more of these stories.

Sara Otero was from Oceanside. Go ahead and Google-map that. What forms the northern border of Oceanside? Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. What freeway runs through Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton? Interstate 5. Where was Sara Otero's car found, which led to her body nearby? At a rest stop. On Interstate 5. In Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
She didn't infiltrate a military installation. She didn't scale a border fence. She merely drove a short distance from home, on a busy freeway, and stopped at a rest area (Vista Point, specifically) and jumped off a nearby cliff. And that's weird?

Yup, it’s weird. And I’m not google-mapping anything!
