Spoken as an American cyclist for more than 30 years. First engaged in "serious" cycling in the 70's cycling boom. Raced in the 80's. And kinda "doughy" myself, these days, even tho I would prefer not to be.

I hate riding uphill. I hate riding in deadly traffic. I am not a fan of riding off pavement. I like riding my bike. there is no reason everyone should drive for every short trip. There is no reason everyone should be a "cyclist" to ride a bike.
We shouldn't only have to ride for sport.
