Uh, because it is an accurate observation? Or, at least, some parts are accurate?

Spoken as an American cyclist for more than 30 years. First engaged in "serious" cycling in the 70's cycling boom. Raced in the 80's. And kinda "doughy" myself, these days, even tho I would prefer not to be.

Unlike the boring Dutch, Americans actually ride up hills.
Unlike the boring Dutch, Americans actually ride fast.
Unlike the boring Dutch, Americans actually travel in deadly traffic, sharing the pavement.

Unlike the boring Dutch, Americans actually enjoy bicycling.

America has a few Dutch-style cyclists, they very slowly ride rusty one speed trikes in flat retirement communities, maybe with a tiny lapdog in a wicker basket.

I hate riding uphill. I hate riding in deadly traffic. I am not a fan of riding off pavement. I like riding my bike. there is no reason everyone should drive for every short trip. There is no reason everyone should be a "cyclist" to ride a bike.

We shouldn't only have to ride for sport.
