The undisputed champion for tracking cycling (and other activities) is Strava. The Strava app is available for iPhone and Android. If you use Windows phone you can download the Run the Map app and when you're finished with your activity you can send it over to Strava.
I have used MapMyRide, runkeeper, and just signed up with strava. I am going to continue testing out strava since I have heard nothing but great reviews about it. Will post any input I have. The other two were good.
Also, I use Strava because I like being able to track stats. One trick for those of you who do really long rides: Strava can eat a battery pretty fast, so an all day ride can leave you wanting. I do two things:
All rides, I start strava, and then go into airplane mode to save battery. The ride will be put onto a blank map, but then when you come online (or if you download the map in advance for free), then it's all there. Being in airplane mode saves a lot of battery.
On the even longer rides, I also bring a back-up battery pack, so if I get too low, I can plug it in and keep going.
Nothing worse than completing that first century of the year, and having it go dead at mile 86.
My stats for this year:
72 rides
139:03 (hours:min)
1742 miles
57,726 feet of elevation gain.
I'm behind on my goal of 3660 miles (10 miles per day), but I think I'll make it up.
I don't use premium, I just set and track my own goals. (So it's all free). None of it is competitive (I'm old), just stuff to keep me motivated.
I use a Garmin device and it syncs to my strava account at end of rides
Ditto. Strava is one of the very few web sites that I pay for. The extra analysis is worth the minimal price. For route planning, I'll either use mapmyride or ridewithgps and export the GPS file to the Garmin, (which has turn-by-turn mapping capability, model 800).

do other trackers consume battery less?
