I was wondering which area do most young professionals live and what is the best way to find a realtor? Looking for a 1 story starter home in a good area. I got one of those Homes and Land magazines but not sure which one to go with. Also, is there a farmers market in Dallas comparable to the Dekalb International Farmers Market in Atlanta (Decatur), GA? Thanks!

There are young professionals in several parts of the DFW area- Uptown, Addison, and Las Colinas are the three largest areas, with Uptown being the biggest and most popular.

Never heard of the Dekalb market, but there is a Farmer's Market in downtown Dallas.

What is your budget for a starter home? The areas with young professionals and young families that are close to Uptown are the M Streets, about 4 miles north of Downtown Dallas, off of 75/Central Expressway. This is a great area that will hold its value long-term. You can definitely find a 2/1 or 2/2 cottage for under $250k in the neighborhood, though most homes are in the $300-500k range. This area was developed in the 1920s-1940s.

If you want a new home at a sharp price point (like under $200k), you will be looking at suburbs 15-30 miles from downtown Dallas.....which have far fewer young single professionals (although there are some).

There is also a small farmer's market in Addison on the SW corner of the Dallas Tollway & Beltline - on the weekends.

Can't answer the question comparing the Farmers Markets but there are many great areas in DFW for young singles. Turtlecrreek has given you some good choices. If no one can refer you to a realtor I would suggest you drive around the areas that look appealing and just choose any real estate company? What about the people you work with, maybe they can make a suggestion?

The most famous Farmers Market I will add is the Dallas Farmers Market, but in recent years it has become very commercialized and no longer has many local farmers. There are still some. The good news, it is very large and you can find almost anything you want.
