I'm not sure where to get the food tickets (check online at bigtex.com), but there are a bunch of ways to save on admission listed at frugalinfortworth.wordpress.com blog.

There are several days you can even get in free!!!! It's a really fun day and doesn't have to be expensive if you plan right.

...oops I forgot to add the actual post link. The State Fair savings list was posted here. (or if that doesn't work, try the long url: Your Savings Guide to the State Fair of Texas (a.k.a. It’s Time for Fletcher’s Corny Dogs & Cheap Tickets!) | Frugal in Fort Worth Blog | Coupon Savings, Personal Budget Tips & Cheap DFW Deals )

Hope you decide to go...it's a fun day.

Did anyone happen to discover where to get the discounted food tickets (that lizziebeth mentioned a few posts back)? Would love to be able to have those before we go. Thanks ahead of time for your help!

What exactly is elementary fair day. Do all elementary kids attend? Do they actually get the day off for this and is is way crowded?

Almost every school district in the Dallas metro area has a "Fair Day" and they don't have school that day. The kids are also given a free Fair Ticket to the fair that they can use that day. If you will look at the schedule for the fair you will see where almost every weekday is "X School District Day". Dallas ISD is the only district where the elementary and high schools do not have the same "Fair Day". I want to say that McKinney ISD does not have a "Fair Day" but they still get a ticket to the fair.
