My husband will be getting transferred to Denton in 2013. I know that I am starting my search early, but I am trying to get as much information as possible. We have two children, my son will be 10 when we get there and my daughter will be 6. Safety, School, and affordablity are very important. We want to live in a family friendly are and diversity is important. We are going to come visit in September and hopefully two more times before 2013. Any suggestions?

Price range for housing? Length of commute your husband is willing to make?

Denton is on the far northern edge of the metroplex. Anything north of it will be rural, but there are some really nice little communities up there and homes with some land. I have several friends who live in Sanger and really love it.

Price range $150,000.00 to $200,000.00. Commute time not more then 30 minutes. We've heard that McKinney, Frisco, Allen, or Plano are all good areas? I will look up Sanger, thanks

McKinney, Frisco and Allen are all more than a 30 minute commute. Frisco is the closest, and the other two are further away. It will be difficult to find anything within your price range. Beware of the Savannah master planned community on 380 since it is full of foreclosures and out of yuor price range anyway.

Do look at Sanger. Most of the new construction will be within your price range!

Denton itself is becoming more desireable option--city is doing some road construction/improvement--more retail in going in
there are two universities there--TWU is smaller than UNT but both have some good programs--TWU is known for its physical therapy and dietary programs--UNT for library science, music, and education

within the almost two years that it will take you to move many factors could change so that what you decide on now might not be that great a choice--
Denton ISD has decent district--and it is growing--

I would say monitor the area and check out how the growth is occurring--probably more on the east and south just because those are the larger population centers anyway--

We live not too far from Denton in Paloma Creek. Only take maybe 15-20 mins to get into downtown Denton. As a matter of fact we have one open lot on our street and you can easily build a decent house for under 200K. From what we hear, Disney is going to building a theme park in North Texas up here in a couple years. Hopefully that will drive property prices up. get in before the rush...

Mrsbeck, not sure it would be of importance to you but I'd suggest someone point out the 'beverage' laws as they affect Denton.
