Making it pretty is a luxury right now. Remember the greenery along central? Too expensive to maintain and removed.

Exactly. Highway beautification is a luxury, one that can't be justified when we're talking about firing teachers.

You must have used Central during winter months, usually when Mother Nature removes greenery. Give it a few more weeks and she will return your greenery – free of charge.

Thanks Dax13 for sharing those magnificent photos. Its amazing there is enough glory to renovate and maintain these treasures with all that negative sentiment going on.

IIRC it was the first half of 2007 whn the City pulled out the shrubbery.

You are quite welcome. The DH and I went over for the Ft. Worth Main St. Arts Festival in 2003. On a lark, we stayed on the TRE for the last stop beyond the Modal Depot. We were amazed when we explored that train station. We love Grand Central and actually were there on 9/11. Anyway, we were so disappointed with the renovation at Reunion. It's not that they didn't do a great job, it is that the station is empty, hollow, sterile. It is vastly underused. Couldn't even find a cup of coffee, other than the vending machine. When we stepped into the Ft. Worth station, you could almost hear the bustle of people, feel the anguish of families saying goodbye to loved ones as they began their journey to serve our country during WWII, the clinking of old Fire King coffee cups at the diner as they watched the waitress slice a piece of apple pie. As you look around, you are transported to a whole 'nother time. It is truly glorious.

By definition it is superficial and with limited funds, it wouldn't be a "priority." So we just had to wait, like the article explains, to add the landscaping.

It was renovated and restored in the late 1970s.
Well, the 1970s renovation was pretty tacky. Luckily it just completed a very good restoration a few years ago bringing back a lot of the original woodwork, paint and colors. Here are a few photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dfwcre8tive/sets/72157624321920670/ (broken link)

Then you have Fort Worth's T&P Station which is a beautiful Art Deco structure: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dfwcre8tive/sets/72157626983306693/with/5897937295/ (broken link)
