I am moving to the dallas/fort worth area and have no idea really about the area. I have a friend that lives in the 75206 area and would like to stay somewhat close to there but fort worth is much cheaper! How far is it to fort worth from that part of dallas and which part of fort worth would be better? I am a single mom and would like to be in a nice lesser expensive neighborhood. Thank you for any help you can give me. Also, has anyone relocated out of state and tried to find an apartment before you go? Any tips, so far I am frustrated!! thanks!

Where is your job? If your work is in Dallas, you DO NOT want to live in Fort Worth (or vice versa)- the commute would be unbearable.

Knowing your budget & job location will help us give the best advice. 75206 has a lot of affordable housing as well as great public schools, depending on exact location in the zip code. I would not count it out if your job is in Downtown Dallas north to the Richardson/75 corridor.

75206 and 75214 have two of the best elementary schools in Texas: Stonewall Jackson and Lakewood - both exemplary and blue ribbon - ask your friend - you can definitely find something in your price range there from apartments to duplexes. A good section for apartments is off E. University between Greenville and Skillman, just south of Lover's Lane in 75206. Close to Stonewall, White Rock Lake, Park Cites/SMU, Central Expressway, North Park, DART stations etc.

All I can say is move close to your job. You did not say where you will be working. The Dallas to Ft Worth or Ft Worth Dallas is not something you want to do on a daily basis. So a little more details and people can help I'm sure.

I was wondering about zip code 75206 for my parents. There seems to be a lot of affordable houses and condos in this area. Will have to look at the specific area Lakewooder suggested.
