HI we are moving from Northern Va, and have looked at several areas-this site has really helped me narrow it down, but I have not come across alot of info regarding Wylie. I have a high schooler and a 5th grader. My husband will be commuting to Addison. Any thoughts?

I have a couple of friends who moved to Wylie and I've been out there a couple of times. It still has a country feel to it, to me. I think the big downside of Wylie is its accesibility. There's no major freeway running through it or next to it. It has its own school district, which is growing. Just heard on the news they have what sounds like a fairly strict dress code. No hoodies, for instance. Everyone I know who lives out there really likes it.

Excellent schools, low crime, access isn't too bad, about 15 minutes from George Bush Turnpike in rush hour. It does have the bland suburb problem but so do alot of suburban Dallas locations. Commute to addison, 30 minutes if you start at 6:30 am, 45 at 7am, would have to time it later than that, but there are many sideroads you can use to get around traffic in that area. There is a small town feel if you want to get involved, concerts in the summer etc, put on by the city.

One more thing, on the weekends every thing is right together. Easy trips to the grocery store etc., Firewheel center 10 minutes away for mall type shopping. Only thing you really have to drive to get to is weekend trips to the Dallas Museum of Art or other downtown venues, still only 45 minutes generally.

There's been alot of posts in the past talking about traffic problems, but they're really not all that bad in my opinion and I've noticed they are generally given by people that don't actually live out towards Wylie who I think are just kind of guessing.

They also have an excellent band, and a great theatre arts program.

Yes, my son graduated from Wylie in 2006. He got a wonderful education from the WISD. Some of Sachse and some of Murphy go the Wylie. What price range are in looking in?

Well let's say they have a large band (which even the horn drowns out). But as for their theater arts, I don't think they are in the Cappies, are they?

Wylie has an excellent (and yes it is large) band. They have a great selection of activities for all students to partake in.

Big truck horn?? Oh, I am so in!! We are looking for houses that are older,up to 500k, and I have found a few that I want to look at- I am comming from the highly congested crazy suburbs of N. Va, so a small town feel would be something I would enjoy. My daughter is a competitive swimmer, and she would want to continue- is this a sport that is supported at the High School? Or are there any swim clubs close by?? I know that Flower Mound has an excellent one, but I am not crazy about living in a large suburb again.
