Real Points » Blog Archive » Nebraska Furniture Mart Sparking Land Deals in The Colony

The following statement sums up what North Texas is becoming...

North Texas fit the bill for a number of reasons, Batt said: “It’s amazing when you go from city to city and look at the economic health and vitality and even the karma of different markets. Some are doing great, like North Texas; others have a sense of emptiness. Because we don’t build 20 stores in a market, we needed to have one big place, and we wanted to be in an area that has a strong outlook. When you come to North Texas, you immediately know that things are different here—you can feel the passion and the fun and the energy.”

So they are trying to capture the North Texas market by building in...the Colony??? Really??? why dont they go ahead and say they are really trying to capture the Frisco/northwest collin county market, because those are the only folks who would bother going over there...

Furniture is a different animal altogether. They could be building in Greenville, and people would still come from south of Dallas and FW for quality and selection. This isn't The Dump we're talking about here, so I think location isn't really important. At least from what I've heard about the place. When living on the east coast, road trips down to North Carolina for good furniture are very common (although that's more because many of the manufacturers were there)...

The location is right near Stonebrair Mall, off 121....seems like a perfect
spot.

It is not deeply hidden in The Colony

No one should have to drive to the Colony for Furniture....The real DFW city dwellers...the ones that live in Dallas and Tarrant County are getting a little irritated with the continued emphasis on the development of Collin and Denton County. The new target distrubution center should have also been placed in Dallas or Tarrant County instead of Denton County.

I disagree. We live in Dallas and we'll check it out for sure.

ETA - besides building something like that in North Dallas is a no go.

They look at demographics, driving time, cost to build, etc.

This is at 121 and Josey Lane. The density of middle to upper class families and yuppies/dinks is very high within a 20 mile radius - higher than any other location in the area. These towns fall within driving distance.

Mckinney, Plano, Frisco, The Colony, Allen, Richardson, N Dallas, Addison, HEB, N Arlington, Irving, Coppell, Flower Mound.

In addition, there are 20,000+ units slated or zoned within 5 miles of that location, not to mention what lies N and NE of there.

Perfect location for something like this.

What's going to happen to the traffic along 121?

I take that route to McKinney.

It's an ideal location for many cities and rest would drive as well. It's not like you have to buy furniture every tuesday.
