Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knows what building in downtown Dallas used to be the First City Bank tower. My father was the controller at First City back in the late 1980's before their infamous collapse.

Pictures would be awesome too! Thanks

This might be the one you are looking for, but I'm not sure. I think this building was formerly known as First City Center when it was built in the early 1980's. It is now called 1700 Pacific. Downtown buildings have changed names so often, it gets confusing.

If this helps, that's where Thompson and Knight had its headquarters for 20 years or more - I think they have completed their move to One Arts.

I was the Construction Accountant for the Developer, Cadillac-Fairview Corporation (out of Toronto) who erected the building; the General Contractor was HCB (Henry C. Beck) Contractors. Cadillac-Fairview purchased the property from the old Dallas Athletic Club; had the property imploded, and erected First City Center Tower in its place. As I recall, construction was active in late 1980 -to- 1981. The building is a 50 story high rise, with a pink/burgundy/grey/black granite exterior, with similar colored reflective glass. Cadillac-Fairview also erected a 20 story building at 1910 Pacific Avenue, called Pacific Place. It sits adjacent to the Majestic theater; was my favorite building due to its' design of a series of "set backs" along the front facade in the plum colored reflective glass. Other construction was plum-colored brick in lieu of granite. The General Contractor was Linbeck Construction Company out of Houston. Cadillac-Fairview's also developed two (2) smaller buildings off LBJ Freeway, near Las Colinas, and the First United Tower, Fort Worth. One (1) other development was the Park at Houston Center, Houston, TX. The Principal Officer of Cadillac-Fairview Corporation, as it emerged in the early 1980's as a "big player" in the re-development (as it was referred to) of Dallas' Central Business district was Michael V. Prentiss, who became friends with Roger Staubach (of Dallas Cowboys fame). I believe...but have no actual facts... that they "teamed-up" in a few developments. Mike Prentiss ultimately headed-up Prentiss Properties, and Mr. Prentiss was THE NICEST/CLASSIEST person I've EVER MET, and had the privilege to be associated with and work for. We only spoke a few times, but he always said: "I'm Mike...and you're Steve!" I considered myself to have reached the highlight of my career, having had the pleasure to work with him!
