This was announced either this morning or yesterday - definitely has potential. Would be COOL to turn it into a version of Seattle's Pike Place market, with a Dallas/Texas spin!

That would be great, the location is ripe for a Seattle's Pike Street type of venue. BTW, I go to the Dallas Farmer's Mkt a lot when I'm near that area, I like it now but can only imagine how much more attractive it would be with this type of project in mind!

I read about this...should be interesting, though I don't think it'll ever be like Seattle. Time will tell. I think almost anything they do down there will be an improvement.

Most of the produce sold there is done by dealers and not farmers. If you want to support local farmers, go to Central Market or Whole Foods.

Well, of course not EXACTLY, but with the same urban, in-the-shadow-of-downtown vibe. Or heck, even something more like Kansas City's River Market would be cool! Welcome to the Kansas City River Market

That's totally true , I was disappointed every time I was there , there is no point for me to drive that much to find better products in Plano CM.
I actually do prefer the McKinney farmer's market. It's very small, but it seems better, I wish they would expend it.

Time will tell, I guess. Right now the Farmer's Market isn't worth the drive for me; it's just a bunch of produce dealers selling stuff for a higher price than what I'd pay at my local supermarket. There are some farmers there, but not very many.

Keep going and they will! It seems to grow a little more and more each year. And with the additional developments they have planned along Hwy 5, it will probably continue to grow. One thing I really like about Mckinney's Farmers Market is their very strong emphasis on locally grown produce, meats and goods....much more so then many other area markets.

The number of local farmers depends on when you go -- during the early summer, nearly the whole shed (#1) is filled with farmers. I avoid the other sheds, except for #2 which has some local goodies and food vendors.

If you have not been there lately you should go and check out all the new townhome and apartment construction - the proposed project is in addition to the current development.

I hear great things about McKinney's farmers market but it's so far away from me that I can't really justify going up there just for that. Is it really that good?

Last time I went was 2012 and there was so much vacant space...what a disappointment. I see no reason for me to venture back down there until they're done with their renovations.
