If the OP is going to be working downtown, why recommend Coppell? I lived in an area of Irving not far from Coppell and it was a major PITA getting downtown from where I lived.

Coppell is about the last place I'd recommend for someone working downtown.

There's an area immediately west of St Ritas that's nice imo. They are medium sized ranch style houses set back nicely from the road. I want to say the LBJ is to the north, Forest Lane to the south, Midway Rd to the west and Inwood to the east. The homes are kept up nicely from what I've seen, have trees and an elementary school right in the neighborhood. It's quiet for where it's at and would be so easy to get around Dallas from.

Looking at a satellite view, it appears there's a middle/high school in that area as well (in addition to Jesuit).

Hockaday and Ursiline are both close by there (both private girls schools). The area you mention has become a hotbed of real estate for young families. The area is very nice and well kept, easy to get around the city, nice homes on nice large lots. W.T. White is one of the closest high schools.

The high school is W.T. White; it's in that neighborhood just to the west of St. Rita. Go a bit further west and you'll see Marsh (a middle school) with its back turned to Forest Ln. I think it's near Forest and Cox.

I'd be careful about buying in that area; get too close to LBJ and it's kinda ghetto. Get too far west and it gets VERY ghetto. Plus...those ranch houses will be prime teardown candidates in a few years, and there's some of it already going on near Welch and Forest.

That's what I liked about that neighborhood, I didn't see any teardowns. The front yards were nice and people had planted flowers in their flowerbeds etc. There's no sidewalks tho which I don't understand, but I think that's the norm.

I grew up just on the other side of the DNT from that area; trust me, some of those houses have already been torn down.
