My family is considering a move to the Dallas area. My husband has a job offer in Carrollton. Our research seems to show that Prosper is the best fit for us community/housing/price-wise but we wonder how long the drive actually is from Prosper to Carrollton.

According to Google maps it is 30 minutes which seems totally doable, but we have heard that the traffic is very bad and that that drive time is inaccurate. What is the actual average time to make this commute?

30 minutes sounds about right during non-rush hour times. During rush hour, it will be around 45-60 minutes.

My wife takes Preston going south from Eldorado Pkwy and goes to Lewisville which is about 20 miles and it takes about 35 minutes at minimum each way without toll and 25 minutes with toll roads.

A fellow in our office takes the tollway from Prosper to downtown Dallas every day and it takes him 45 minutes but we start our day at 7:30 so he misses the peak rush.
rain or someone having a flat tire anywhere along the tollway can double his time. Prosper is one of the fastest growing areas so I expect the traffic to get much worse.

The commute will only get worse.

I'd look at Castle Hills in Lewisville for something similar to Prosper.
