This may be a silly question, however it's been wearing on
my mind.
While I was navigating on Google, looking at the China Spring area,
I noticed that in that area, as well as Waco, most of the streets are
very cracked.

What causes that?

I don't see much of that up here, north of Dallas.

Lack of money for maintenance. You see plenty of cracked streets in Dallas and in older suburbs in north Dallas. Streets have a lifecycle and need repairs at regular intervals, and if the city [or area responsible] doesn't have the money to maintain, then it gets cracked. Some FM roads in west Texas are being returned to gravel instead of asphalt to save on costs.

If you think Waco is bad, don't go cruising around Gholson, they're renowned for their many potholed and cracked roads.

Thank you for your replies. Now you have me curious, adyn. If I hit Gholson, definitely take the 4X?

I just looked....95% of what you are seeing as cracks are old cracks that have been filled with black tar. The streets in Waco are just fine.

Be glad you don't have to drive in Detroit. I spent a few weeks there on an assignment. On the radio, they were giving away a set of tires to the one who could find the worst chuck hole in the city streets. Many of those roads are 3 or 4 lanes wide in both directions, and the chuck holes extend the full width, so you can't go around.
