Hello all,

I am taking a job in Fort Worth later this summer. I understand that Fort Worth is a wonderful place to live in. I also understand that Arlington and the other middle cities offer a reasonable compromise. However, due to family/ personal reasons, I have to be in Dallas. Public transportation, unfortunately, will not be an option due to job requirements. I am looking to make the best of the commute. I have looked through some of the other related threads and gleaned some of the advice there. I was mainly wondering if I could get advice from people who are already in this situation on places to live/rent in Dallas. I will probably be looking to rent something middle/ upscale at least for the first 6 months I'm there. Thank you for all your help!

It would depend where you would end up in Dallas and where in Fort Worth you have to commute to. Do you know yet? I think 1 hour in rush hour/bad weather will be about what you should expect if it was from downtown to downtown.

If you are looking to rent a house, finding one for a term of less than a year would be very difficult. An apt. wouldn't be an issue though.

Downtown to downtown is about the shortest commute you can get between the two. It is about 30 minutes in the morning and 40 or so in the evening. You can cut a few minutes off if you live in the Kessler Park area. Uptown area takes about 10 minutes more. Any further north or east and you end up in Dallas traffic before you hit I-30. Commuting from the northern areas of Dallas, or the north suburbs would be an hour to well over an hour each way.

Perhaps you can rent in Irving ...... its soooo close to Dallas but would shave a good amount from your communte. Other place you might consider would be North Oak Cliff right near HWY. 30. I drove between Irving and downtown Fort Worth for 3 years. Took me about 40-45 minutes. Wasn't a bad drive at all.
