Thanks for the info. I'd expected carrollton (where we are buying) to be higher up on the list so feel better about the price we are paying for our home now. We are still way above the median but not so astronomically high that I feel fleeced.

I may be wrong, but I think the Carrollton number is brought down by the Farmers Branch number.

The new issue of East Dallas/Lakewood Advocate out today shows that the average price of a home in Lakewood Elementary (sub-group area 7) has now crossed half-a-million ($507,641) and the average price per square foot is $201.60. This is from Ron Burch's Real Estate Report

This makes Lakewood the fourth most expensive area in DFW.

Combined with the far lower median of $220,000 for East Dallas, this also highlights the big problem that many suburbanites have with Lakewood. It is not nicely homogeneous but instead has pockets of (and borders) run-down areas that scare a lot of people.

Well they are fewer and fewer - most are the old Fitzhugh corridor (where now 20 acres of apartments have/going down) and the Mount Auburn area, right next to Hollywood Heights - M.A. could be completely torn down in the next few years. Most of the less expensive properties are on the other side of the lake. Also Area 12 prices include most of South Dallas, Fair Park and Parkdale/Urbandale.

I mean even the M-Streets plus Lower Greenville/Vickery Place are about to cross $400,000 average price.
