I wasn't aware of any public pre-K programs, but it appears there is one. However, you have to meet specific criteria:

Programs / Pre-Kindergarten

One more somewhat unrelated question...how hard is it to get into the public school pre k programs in Coppell, and how much does it cost? My oldest will be in 2nd grade and my youngest will be 4, so it would he really convenient to have them go to the same place. The cost will also directly affect how much rent or mortgage I can afford.
Public PreK in Texas is for ESL students or students from poor families (ie, quality for free lunch at school). I think you will need to plan for daycare or private preschool for your 4 year-old.

Now that I see how much daycare costs in Texas this whole thread might be moot....looks like I'm going to be paying in the neighborhood of $1500 a month??? That's double what it is here, so I might not be moving after all. WOW

$1500 a month is the basically the top-of-the-line daycare. There are plenty of quality daycares for around half of that, and you can find small, lower-quality in-home care for 1/3 of that.

Not to be snarky, but did you really think that the cost of living in DFW would be similar to Little Rock? Little Rock has 200,000 residents; DFW has 7 million. Coppell and Richardson are two of the most sought-after suburbs so they aren't cheap in an already more expensive metro area. You can find a cheaper place to live and less expensive daycare; you just need to adjust your expectations to not living in the top areas of DFW.

After/before school care for your oldest + full time Pre-K = $1450 at my daughter's daycare. You might be able to find something cheaper if you go with the Y or Alphabest (or a similar program) for your older child and an in-home center for your youngest.

At home care will definitely be cheaper. I know there are a few providers in Coppell

I did expect it to be somewhat more but not over double. Believe it or not the cost of housing is quite comperable. Renting is actually comparably cheaper. And yes I understand I'm looking at the more desirable areas, which is why you haven't heard me comment about 1300 SF houses going for north of 200 grand in Coppell. But thank you for stating the obvious with such delightful condescension

Thank you, I'll look into at home. It's the opposite here, at home is much more expensive than facilities.

I don't see that TC80 was being condescending at all. People often have unrealistic expectations regarding the COL here...especially in an older suburb like Richardson. My neighborhood in Richardson...built 60 years ago...costs more per sq ft than my coworkers' homes in shiny new Frisco.
