I have lived in the Dallas area (both in town and in the burbs) my whole life. The cost of living is great, but we are moving to Austin for the quality of life. It's so much prettier there and has more of a small town feel, yet it has tons of business as well as the capital. The housing costs are pretty comparable to Dallas area burbs. In Austin we can actually afford a nicer house closer to downtown than we can here. You should definitely visit Austin to see if it fits your lifestyle.

The Dallas/Ft. Worth area is really huge, with tons of surrounding cities close enough to commute. I would research school districts first to narrow down areas because some are much much better than others. You don't want to be in DISD. Lots of people now prefer Ft. Worth to Dallas. I know that Jones/Day is a huge international firm with a large office in Dallas.

We currently live in Flower Mound, where you can find houses from 130K to over a million. We paid $169K for a 4/2/2 living 4 years ago. 2500 sq.ft. HUGE yard, but no pool. There are newer, nicer subdivisions than ours though, such as Bridlewood, Lantana and Wellington that you might be able to get into for under 250K. You might also try Highland Shores. Flower Mound schools have a great reputation (it's Lewisville ISD-but don't buy in Lewisville-buy in Flower Mound, Highland Village or Lantana--all right next to Lewisville)

Why does your husband want to move to Texas? Has he lived here? Even if he has some experience of the place, you need to be sold on it, too, before you invest in a house or otherwise tie yourself down. You're both young enough to endure a move that proves unsatisfactory, so I'd say come on down, rent a place -- maybe a house maybe an apartment -- and find a good job. Your hubby should find one, too. And then scope out the town and the schools. Take a year, and if you like it, decide what part of town or perhaps what town you want to live in, and then buy a house. Dallas is in a singularly unscenic part of the state, and the summers are long and hot, so you may tend to live indoors. Of the north Texas cities, I find Fort Worth easier to navigate and in respects more attractive than Dallas, but being smaller than Big D, it may offer fewer of the amenities and job opportunities you seek.

I have lived in Wylie for almost 2 years and in my opinion, there are many nice parts of Wylie. The city is naturally divided by Hwy 78 and there are new and nice neighborhoods on both sides. Feel free to Direct message me with any specific questions about the area.
